IATS BOC CEU Provider Number Usage Guidelines

Requesting to provide CEUs on behalf of the Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society

 

Requirements to represent the IATS as a CEU provider

  • The requesting person must be a member in good standing of the Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society.

  • The requesting person must be the host, coordinator, or member of the team planning and organizing the event.

  • Since IATS will be the CEU provider, a $50 processing fee (to review, store, and keep records) shall be remitted to IATS.

 

 

Basic parameters for a CEU event

  • Programming must fall into at least one of the BOC-identified domains of athletic training.

  • Programming must have athletic trainers as a primary target audience. 

  • Programming must be presented at or above the entry level of an athletic trainer. See Role Delineation Study for entry-level.

  • CEUs may only be awarded for actual learning time. Lunch, exhibits, business meetings and social time don't count.

 

 

Initial Approval Procedures (at least 2 months prior to the event):

  • Request, read, and verify understanding and agreement to follow the policies and procedures of the BOC and those outlined by IATS.

  • Submit information regarding the CEU event. 

      • Learning event details. This should include tentative topics, speakers, intended CEUs to be awarded, etc.

      • Specifically how this CEU will benefit IATS members (i.e., location, reduced cost).

      • Name and contact information of the coordinator of the event and person who will be responsible for providing IATS with required information and records, if different.

  • State the educational level which is defined in the BOC Guidebook and use this statement along with it... “According to the education levels described by the CEC Committee of the NATA, the following continuing education course is considered to be Essential/Advanced/Mastery Level.”

 

 

After Gaining Initial Approval (at least 2 weeks prior to the event):

  • Provide Event specific details

      • Learning event details. This should include topics, speakers (with credentials and biographies or curriculum vitae), intended CEUs to be awarded, etc.

      • If you will charge a fee for continuing education activities, an established policy regarding cancellations and refunds; this should be clearly indicated to potential participants.

  • Agree to follow the below requirements for and submit copies of all advertising and promotional materials.

  • These must clearly indicate educational objectives, the target audience, the schedule and format, the fee and refund/cancellation policy, the credentials of the instructor(s) and the number of contact hours or CEUs that will be offered; please also identify the level of difficulty based on the level descriptions found below.

  • When advertising your approved provider status, you must use the BOC Approved Provider logo, which can be found on the BOC website with guidelines for use, and the following statement: “The Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers.”

  • The BOC Approved Provider logo may not be used on or in conjunction with resale items, products or clothing.

  • The Board of Certification corporate logos and the BOC name may not be used in conjunction with marketing materials, resale items, products or clothing.

 

 

Required documentation for a CEU event

For participants:

AFTER the event, each participant must receive a document of completion (example available)to include:

  • Title of the activity

  • Date

  • Participant’s name

  • Number of hours (or CEUs)

  • Signature of individual verifying attendance

  • Provider name and number (Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society   P366)

  • BOC Approved Provider logo

  • BOC Approved Provider statement: “The Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society is recognized by the

  • Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. This program has been approved for a maximum of (INSERT #)  hours of Category A continuing education. Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for claiming only those hours actually spent participating in the continuing education activity.

  • BOC Approved Provider Number: P366

  • Number of hours actually participated:_____

 

Provide each attendee opportunity to evaluate the course.

 

 

For Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society

An attendance roster (sample form available) that includes each participant’s

  •        name

  •        BOC #

  •        Contact information (address, email address, or telephone number)

 

Attendee evaluations or complete summary of them within a month of completion of the event. 

A financial summary of the event, if requested.
