IATS Annual Awards
The IATS Honors and Awards Committee recognizes outstanding contributions to the profession of athletic training in the state of Iowa annually with awards. All award winners will be recognized at the awards ceremony at the annual meeting.

Young Professional Distinction Award
​
​The IATS Young Professionals’ Distinction Award honors a young professional athletic trainer who has made a definitive impact on the athletic training profession and association at the various levels of organization (national, district, state). This is a meritorious award that recognizes contributions in the some of the following areas: service, professionalism, integrity, initiative, leadership, and ability to inspire other professionals.
Jim Carney Award of Merit
Awarded to an individual who has made significant contributions to the profession of athletic training through advocacy, clinical work, scholarship or service and has ties to the state of Iowa through their education or employment. Selection committee will weigh contributions of applicants based upon: significance of contributions, strength of letters of recommendation, and longevity of career.

Educator of the Year
The IATS Educator of the Year Award is given to a member of IATS that has demonstrated outstanding abilities in educating future athletic trainers either at the high school or college/university levels. The selection committee will weigh contributions of applicants based upon: evidence of quality instruction, strength of program outcomes, and longevity of career.

IATS Hall of Honor
​The IATS Hall of Honor recognizes the very best of the athletic training profession and is the highest honor that is bestowed upon a member. To be eligible for the IATS Hall of Honor, the nominee must:
Criteria:

Be a former or current member of IATS, a member in good standing with the NATA, left
the profession in good standing, or has retired AND -
Must have at least 20 years of service as a certified athletic trainer AND
-
Must have been licensed in good standing by the State of Iowa.
​Candidates will be scored in the following areas.

Years of service in athletic training/Iowa

Professional involvement in athletic training

Contributions to IATS, MAATA, NATA

Job related regional and state related contributions

​Applications Process:
a. The nominator submits the Hall of Honor Nomination Form including 2 letters of support, each outlining the nominees exceptional service record and contributions to athletic training in Iowa.
b. Once the nomination is received, the H&A Committee Chair will send the nominee the Hall of Honor Application Form to collect additional information for scoring.
c. The nominee will complete the Hall of Honor Application Form, address specific questions, and submit their CV/Resume.​​

c. The nominee will complete the IATS Award Application Form, address specific questions, and submit their CV/Resume (if appropriate) to the committee using the IATS Award Application Form.

a. The nominator submits the IATS Award Nomination Form including 2 letters of support, each outlining the
nominee’s exceptional educational contributions to athletic training in Iowa.
b. Once the nomination is received, the H&A Committee Chair will send the nominee the Educator of the Year Application Form to collect additional information for scoring.
c. The nominee will complete the Educator of the Year Application Form, address specific questions, and submit their CV/Resume and evidence of instructional effectiveness.
Possible examples of evidence include student evaluations from courses taught, peer evaluations of instruction for the nominee, attendee evaluations of the nominee’s conference presentations, or a letter from a recipient of the nominee’s instruction. Nominees only need to submit 1 of these items to the Honors and Awards Committee for scoring.​

​The IATS Executive Committee Appreciation Award honors an athletic trainer who has contributed the most to the efforts of the IATS during the year. The IATS Executive Committee Appreciation Award is selected by the IATS Executive Committee. The award winner could be determined based on past and current contributions to the IATS.

IATS Professional Scholarship
The IATS Professional Student Scholarship honor two full-time students enrolled in an Iowa CAATE accredited professional-level athletic training program.

Must be a full-time student (currently enrolled or accepted to) a CAATE-accredited, professional Athletic Training Program in the state of Iowa.

Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 (based on 4.0 scale) for ALL professional degree courses to date including the fall term of the year of application.

Must have the intention of pursuing athletic training and certification by the Board of Certification (BOC).

Application Process:
​a. The nominees will complete the IATS Student Scholarship Application form (LINK coming soon), addressing specific questions, submitting their resume, unofficial transcript and a written essay addressing the following:​
​i. Part 1: Describe your short and long-term career plans as you pursue the AT profession.
ii. Part 2: Describe an AT educational experience that has had an impact on your education. What did you learn from the experience? What have you learned from other experiences outside of your program related to AT? How will these experiences prepare you for your career?
iii. Part 3: Identify a current issue or topic within the field of athletic training. What factors should be considered when forming an opinion on this issue? How could potential changes/solutions, relevant to the topic, benefit the athletic training profession?
b. Have 1 letter of recommendation from a sponsoring BOC Certified IATS Athletic Trainer. It must be emailed by the sponsoring athletic trainer to: iats.scholarships@gmail.com​
