Iowa Department of Public Health Concussion Data Collection

IATS has partnered with the Iowa Department of Public Health to collect concussion data in grades 7-12 in the state of Iowa. We are in need of ATs who work in the secondary school setting to help submit concussion information. The IDPH has received a grant to provide money to ATs who participate. The initial data collection will take place Dec 1st, 2018 – May 31st, 2019. Participants will receive $100 ($50 on April 1st and $50 on June 1st). The IDPH has received a grant to cover costs of this data collection, thus no IATS funds will be utilized for this data collection.

If you are interested in participating, please contact IATS President Brad Floy (brad-floy@uiowa.edu)

Expectation and requirements:

  • Work as a Certified Athletic Trainer in the high school and/or middle school setting (grades 7-12) in Iowa
  • Fill out an online survey for each concussion occurred in athletic activity at your school (~5mins to complete)
  • Provide feedback on ways to improve data collection to IDPH and IATS

There will be a second data collection period for the entirety of the 2019-20 school year with amounts TBD. ATs who take part in initial collection period will have option for continued participation.

The survey is currently being finalized and will be available for distribution in December. More detailed instructions will accompany it.
